As-salaam Alaykum, Mbaading

I am very pleased to have incidentally come across with this website. I want you to know that I am very proud of you for the splendid job that have been doing in this website of yours.

I am particularly fascinated with the unique collection of Lalo Kebba Drammeh. For me and other true Kora-lovers, Lalo Kebba Drammeh’s legacy will continue to occupy great part of our lives, as far as the traditional music is concerned. So by using modern technology is a brilliant contribution and a new way forward as well. Abbarraka Kendekeh!

Best wishes from Abdou Touray, Oslo/Norway (Originally Baddibou Banni)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I have noticed variant pronunciation/spellings of the title of some the songs of Lalo Kebba.

1) Jimba Sango = Jimbo or Jimbesengho
2) Ansu Bojang = Yudumunko
3) Papa Jabbi = Bang-fa Jabbi (a renown Marabout to whom the song was dedicated)
4) Kelepha Ba = Kelepha Sanneh (to whom the song was dedicated)

I hope you don’t mind that I write and send this tips to you, for I think it would help enhance the title list of Lalo Kebba. Thank you and may Allah reward you, Ameen!

Wah Salaam

Abdou Touray

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

About the late Lalo Kebba Drammeh, as one of your guests, Dawda AJ Barrow, was asking. Although I don’t know much about him, I can say the following:

• He was born, according to some people, in Kiang (place of birth not recalled), others maintained that he was from Cassamance (place not recalled). What is quite clear is that Lalo Kebba Drammeh was revered with high regard, loved and was considered a full-fledged citizen of both The Gambia and Cassamance.

• He was married and his wife (also his partner in music) was called Kura(mbesa)

• His kora and song touch the hearts and minds of the true Kora-lovers; before and after his demise.

• He died in 1973 and was buried in Dakar.

• He did not leave any offspring behind.

May Allah grant him a place of abode in Al-Jannah, Ameen!

Abdou Touray

Lalo Kebba songs remind some one of real typical African culture. He died in 1973 same year with Bruce Lee a Chineese kunfoo actor.I have down loaded all of his song and that of Super Eagles in an mp3 and listens to it even at work. It reduces some streses. My boy you have done extremely well for your Mum, just keep up the good. Pa Lonka has passed away 3 months ago. Greetings to "mbitang musu" and the kids.

Lamin, your endeavor is well appreciated and ‘am happy to tell you that doing a marvelous job. The fact that you are from salikenyi made me extra proud of you. My name is Massaneh Ceesay also form Salikenye and residing in Frankfurt, Germany since 1978. You may not know me but your late uncle Momodou Manneh (njim) was a good friend of mine. We all spend our childhood days in Salikenye with Kebba Ceesay, Ousman Dibba, Ebrima Ceesay and many others in the sixties. Fafanding Njie, commonly known as Ba-Pito is my neighbor in Germany. He leaves in Wiesbaden and I leave in Frankfurt.
Lamin, if I may make a suggestion for the benefit of all folks from Salikenye, I would suggest, if possible for you to make a serious research for the history of Salikenye and add it on your wed site. The village Salikenye is very important in the Gambia because of the productive intellectual sons and daughters who were born and raised in that village. It is a blessing to be associated with this noble village. Thanks again for the effort.

I happen to stumble on your homepage when I searched for Youssou Ndour on Altavista. I have not used the search engine in eight years...since the advent of google. I can't wait to get home and listen your music collection. Since you grew up in Salikene, do you know Lamin Fatajo? He and I went to Gambia College in the early 1990s. If you do and know how to get in touch with him let me know.

Thanks for bringing back some memories. I watched Super Eagles in the late 60's and early seventies in Freetown Sa. Leone. I wonder if you happen to have a song which was titled (I think) Koura Baysan ?? He used the phrase "Yamatnelau" and I do remember that. Please contact me . Once again thanks.
